My take on "The Social Dilemma" documentary.

Hi, in this blog post I am going to share my thoughts and comments after watching the documentary "The Social Dilemma". This documentary goes into great depth at showing that although the companies who created these now known huge social media platforms didn't have the intention of creating such mental health sucking platforms, that is what they have become. There are many positives when it comes to using social media and engaging with it, however they describe the phenomenon of how gen z and the newer generations are getting negatively impacted by its daily use. It was interesting that they described the way that when you like and view something, the online generators track how long you scroll, stay looking at a post, and what you like the most to then create a model of what they know will catch your attention. Teens thus spend hours and hours scrolling away, not giving time to the present life they are in which in turn they are "giving their life away to the socia

2024 Total Solar Eclipse

https://science.nasa.gov/eclipses/future-eclipses/eclipse-2024/ Hello, in this blog post I am going to discuss my experience from viewing the 2024 total solar eclipse. It was very fascinating to say the least. I watched it in my backyard with my family, wearing those eclipse paper glasses. When the solar eclipse was in partiality, it was very cool to slowly see the moon get covered by the moon through the glasses. Of course when you look straight at the sun with your bare eyes, you cannot see it getting covered, which my mom and I looked at for a second on accident, haha. I was going back inside my house as the sun got more covered because I didn't feel like sitting outside the whole time. As the sun was getting more covered by the moon, you could hear my neighbors yelling out in excitement. The sky and world around us was slowly getting darker and darker, which was very cool to experience. When the eclipse was in totality, and there was no need for the glasses, it was so mesmerizi

Digital Divides

Hello! In this blog post, I am going to be discussing what "digital divide" is, and how it currently affects classes within our society. Digital divide refers to those who have more access to technology and the internet than others who don't. Many factors contribute to this divide such as the area you grow up in, affordance, lack of knowledge in knowing how to use it, internet access, and so on. Thankfully I have not experienced such digital divides, as I have grown up with technology surrounded by me and my family introduced it to me from a rather early age.  However, I have witnessed it from family around me, such as my dad and older people within my community. Although he can grasp basic concepts of what technology is, he isn't very familiar with the ins and outs of it like my siblings are for instance. Obviously for many of our parents technology wasn't a part of their childhood and early adult years. A lot of the time, my dad has us do things for him if he
Hi there! My name is Abeer Aldweik, and I am currently a freshman at the University of Toledo. I am majoring in Criminal Justice, with a concentration in pre-law. My career goals are to become a detective in the FBI, or a lawyer of some sort. When it comes to the world of social media, I am interested in learning more about other people's cultures such as their lifestyle, clothing, food and things of that nature. I also like to just simply learn more from what this world has to offer. For me, I see social media as an outlet to get information, keep up with people's lives, while also getting away from my life at times. Social media has been a great way for me to learn a lot of information that I may not be able to grasp hands on or get access to particular information. Activism has become a huge thing on social media, and I am glad that people are opening their eyes to the reality of the injustices taking place not only around us, but also around the world. I am not the biggest
